We also provide a fantastic range of travel planning services, help members save money on mobile phone bills when traveling, and represent your interests as a frequent flyer to industry and government bodies.
Over 400,000 frequent business travelers in over 200 countries already enjoy the many benefits that IAPA membership brings, and now you can too!
IAPA was set up to represent the interests of frequent air travelers by providing them with special discounts on items such as hotel accommodation, car rental and insurance, in addition to protecting and promoting their rights as airline passengers. We work in partnership with major companies worldwide to bring the best deals possible to our members.
A Brief History
The need for a voice to speak up for the interests of the individual air traveler inspired the organization of the Airline Passengers Association in 1960. In those days, the Association was known as the “Airways Club” and had offices in the Pan American Building (now the Metro Life building) in New York City.
The concept of the organization was to provide certain benefits for an annual membership fee, as well as belonging to an association whose interests coincided with the interests of frequent airline travelers. Until APA came into existence, the passenger had no one to speak up for him or to protect his interests. He was the lone voice of an individual and often ignored.
In 1964, the Association moved its headquarters, first to San Antonio, Texas, then four years later to Dallas.
From the outset, the Association's outlook was global and its goals have consistently been to provide air travelers with safety, convenience, comfort and economy. IAPA has always endeavored to provide the solution to a problem, whatever it may be.
Membership Growth
Membership has grown dramatically over the past 40 years. By 1970, the Association's membership exceeded 15,000. Within another five years another 10,000 had joined the ranks. As the international membership continued to expand, so did our services. A European office, based in London, was established in 1977 and a presence in the Far East was established in 1982 with the opening of a Hong Kong office. At that time all offices became known as International Airline Passengers Association (IAPA). Today the worldwide membership is well over 400,000 and covers over 200 countries.
